Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar today said those not happy with Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's blog post attacking the attorney-general (A-G) should lodge a report so that police could investigate the former prime minister.
"In certain cases we don't need a report but in this case, we will wait for a report (to be lodged)," the inspector-general of police said after attending the conclusion of a three-day training course on countering Isis militancy in Kuala Lumpur today.
Khalid said police would investigate if there was any seditious element in the posting as alleged by certain quarters.
"Anyone who is not happy can lodge a report. We will investigate and check if there is a breach of law or not," he said.
Writing on his blog on February 5, Dr Mahathir attacked A-G Tan Sri Mohamed Apandi Ali over his decision not to charge the prime minister, saying the country's top prosecutor had no credibility.
He also said Datuk Seri Najib Razak should resign if Malaysia were to regain its reputation.
"To clear Malaysia’s good name and his own, Najib must prove beyond a shadow of doubt that he is innocent of all the accusations against him. The A-G saying he is innocent means nothing.
"He, the A-G, has no credibility. "Failing this, Najib should resign," Dr Mahathir wrote.
The former prime minister has been criticising Apandi since the latter's decision last month not to press charges against Najib over the RM2.6 billion donation and the Finance Ministry-owned SRC International Sdn Bhd, citing a lack of evidence.
Dr Mahathir said the A-G had acted as both judge and prosecutor in the matter, and accused him of being under Najib's control.
He had also criticised Apandi for closing the case on Bank Negara Malaysia's findings on 1MDB's inaccurate declarations for overseas investments. – February 8, 2016.
